Okay, people- this is one of those out of the box newborn sessions that I hope will inspire you to think about your own family and what kind of images could reflect you and your family’s personality. A photography session with me is not just a plug-and-play routine; I really love to brainstorm how I can customize to make sure your images reflect a real picture of your unique family.
When did you last truly celebrate your love story?
YOUR EVERYDAY LOVE STORY
FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY PROMOTION
It’s about to hit – the season of flowers and chocolates and super gushy sweet love notes.
There’s part of me that still loves that. . . . but when I stop to reflect, love has become something much more.
When you share a life with someone, life is a little messy. But it’s still beautiful.
Love is a spouse who will massage pregnant achy muscles, without a massage in return.
Love is the wonder of gazing at a little, longed for newborn, who knows nothing and is yet everything.
Love is taking turns getting up to calm that teething baby or nightmaring toddler.
It’s deciding to laugh when the toddler puts a bowl of spaghetti on her head.
Love is going to work bleary eyed, but coming home early for a big running hug from a 5-year-old sweetheart. Or it’s staying home with a little person who will somehow both drive you nuts and heart melt you like nothing else.
Love is smashed cheerios on the couch and sand from the beach in the car.
It’s Barbie shoes at the bottom of your purse, it’s band-aids as fashion statements, it’s peas thrown from the high chair, it’s muddy, muddy shoes in the mudroom.
Love is date night at home, with Chinese take-out and Netflix binging.
Love is a knowing gaze when your son giggles – the gaze of knowing that you can together joy at your kid being joyful.
It’s sharing a beer or a glass of wine. Sitting on the stools in the kitchen together while one kid whines for a snack even though he just ate dinner and the other kid zooms Hot Wheels by your feet. Sharing more of those gazes.
Those gazes are love. When you don’t even have to explain how you feel, because you’ve both shared it. You both know.
Life isn’t how it was before – it’s messier, it’s sleepier, but it’s also amazingly beautiful.
Your every day is beautiful. A beautiful love story.
This Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate your beautiful ordinary love with a family story session.

Before you hit play on the video below (and yes, in a sec I’m going to explain here why you really really should hit play) – take a look at the photo I’ve chosen as it’s cover. It’s one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken, and I feel really thankful to have had the chance to take it. Every single person in this brand new family of five is in relationship to someone else in the frame, in a beautiful, joyful, I can’t believe this is happening moment. He’s here. Little brother is here, and we are now complete! He is snuggled to mom, cozy and listening for the first time to the chatter and exuberance that will be his new everyday. Mom is looking at her oldest and thinking about how big he is, and how he was once so little. Mr. Middle Child and dad are just reveling in the fun and newness and excitement that they are getting to share together. It’s not posed – it was documented – and exactly the kind of documented moment my artist brain is constantly looking to capture.
It’s Thanksgiving week!
What are you thankful for? My oldest turns THIRTEEN this week, and I am thankful for thirteen years, and all the lessons that thirteen years teach you about parenting. About what you can control and what you can’t. About being kind of amazed and also a little sad/scared/excited that he’s survived to that teenage milestone, and a little curious about what the next thirteen years holds.
Some of you are just friends of the family I’m blogging about, or maybe someone who is pregnant and considering a photographer, and you are wondering where I’m going with this! Apologies for being a little bit stream-of-consciousness here. But I do try to let people understand the vision I am looking at when I pick up my camera, choose a lens, and bring your world into focus. I do bring, unapologetically, my love for my own children, my love for parenthood despite its struggles, authentic and unposed beauty, and a quest to preserve real moments and real emotion.
So awesome to see news that Expertise.com named June Day Photography as one of the Top 20 Maternity Photographers in Philadelphia! In the list are so many other photographers I follow and love, so it really is an honor. Thanks to all of you who have been helping me along and turning my passion for authentic, everyday beautiful captures into a career that I love.
And of course – if you are expecting a new little one into your life, or know someone who is – give me a holler and let’s chat about how I can tell your family’s story for you – From maternity on through the first year!
Fresh 48. I’m not sure who came up with that term, but boy, I’ve been spending time editing this sweet family’s session, working to create this video fusion slideshow, and fresh feels like the correct word. It’s a fresh new family – little one is only hours old, and glows with fresh, new, tiny sweetness.
Are you looking for a photographer for family or newborn photos, but just are not convinced that you have the kind of home that is worthy of being photographed? As a photographer, I look for ways to show you that your life is beautiful, wherever you live. This couple are young graduate students who have given me some major flashbacks to my own life twelve years ago. They live in a normal apartment complex, in a suburb of Philadelphia, and you know what I saw with my photographer eyes in their place?
So here is another everyday beautiful gallery of photos – meaning not quite full official session – just me visiting with a new friend and deciding to bring my camera along because my new friend has a ten-day-old newborn and honestly, I just can’t not take new baby photos, I love newborns so much. I was getting some major flashbacks, because this baby is number four for this family – and since I have four, I remember very vividly the days when my own number four came home.
Spring is the perfect season for babies, right? It’s finally warm after a long winter (bundled up and pregnant – ooh, believe me I know the feeling) – finally sunshine arrives in it’s burst of beautiful. Little Ms S arrived at the perfect time and I was so happy to capture her one week old birthday in this family’s Old City loft. The walls of this gorgeous loft just call out spring too – with window light and bright colors on every wall – the perfect backdrop for welcoming new sister, who is destined to bring trouble to her big brother.
